Orvis – Christmas 1979

Orvis, an outdoors company founded in 1856, has been one of the most sought-after and recognized names in the fishing, hunting, and sporting world. With humble roots as a fly-reel manufacturer in Manchester, Vermont, Orvis eventually grew a small but devoted following of loyal customers. The operation expanded over time to become one of the most prominent names in the mail-order industry, and has remained a family-owned company for over 150 years. Today, Orvis sells their own full line of outdoors oriented, casual, and cabin-chic clothing, home items, a full array of fly-fishing gear, and partners with other well known brand such as Barbour as licensed North American distributors.

We invite you to take a trip back nearly 40 years to 1979, to explore not only what has changed in the companies lineup of products, but even more remarkably, what has not. From game-bird emblazoned whiskey glasses to sweaters (and lest we forget the famed dog nest!), Orvis has cultivated a certain ethos that is still alive and well today.

Their line of products likely adorn more than a few winter abodes in creating the perfect backdrop to the holiday season.
